Your Look and Feel make the Difference

The look of your website is the first impression visitors get about you, your business, your attitude and your professionalism. Surfing the web we notice that hype sites have a different look than professional well founded content sites. Online Casinos look differently than wellness sites and Government sites look different from personal blogs.

The presentation is a question of your personal preferences or also of your professional choice.

Ego Centered Websites

Ego centered web sites are designed based on personal preferences, such as a personal blog. Ego centered blogs are in first line here to please the creator. The approach can be without compromise and highlight mainly content of personal interest.

Visitor Centered Websites

Customer or Visitor Centered web sites are built with a purpose to communicate with a targeted audience. The look is an important element of communication, namely when it comes to the first impression and the immediate empathy that can be built or blocked.

First things first: first comes the over all look and impression, then the content.

The content can be split into the sites substantial content and as the case may be the commercial content (ads).

Publisher’s Choice

The Publisher will decide about targeted audience, market, look, priorities to fine tune then the over all look.

Niche Sites vs. Multi-Category Sites

Niche Sites have a clear advantage: you target a clearly defined audience, you know what the audience expects and you tune in function of such expectations and beyond.

If your site deals with Wellness, Art, News, Sports, Cars and Strip-tease, you address different target keywords. Even if one and the same person can be interested in all your categories, timing will become important:

If your visitor types into Google: Art and he ends up on a site with the look of a Strip-tease place, your first contact may not trigger the desired empathy. If on the other hand it’s time for a strip and your visitors is searching for that on Google an he then ends up on a site with the look of a weight loss site (with all it implies graphically, he may walk away with utmost frustration :-).

You therefore may notice that Multi-Category and Multi-Target sites keep a rather neutral look, may be news paper like, press like or even very minimalist.

Same Content Different Look

Here an example of the same content, wrapped up differently:

Yorgo Nestoridis Personal Yorgo Nestoridis Art Yorgo Nestoridis News

Believe it or not: the site content is identical on all three sites, but the look is completely different and will therefore please targets with different expectations. It is now a matter of allocating the content corresponding to a particular topic to the site with the corresponding look to create first impression empathy.

YORGOO Publishing Concept

Part of the YORGOO Publishing Concept is to stream information from Author’s sites to aggregators and then to the appropriate niche sites.

The Author’s site often is personal site, the aggregator can be a news paper type site and the niche sites have each different looks. The most flexible niche scripts are YORGOO Blaster and YORGOO Booster, whereas the Booster beats them all with the impressive first impression created with the mega header.

Google Top 10 Formula

Google Top 10 Formula

How to reach Google Top 10 Positions?

Over the years we have come across many promising formulas to reach Google Top 10 Positions. Hype Promotion guaranteeing Google Top 10 position on any keyword is sent to your spam box daily and promising, well designed sales pages are even promoted by Google Ads which is in complete contradiction to the products’ claimed merits.

The simple Google Top 10 Formula

Seriously, nobody can guarantee Google Top 10 positions on any keyword. However there are some clear ways of proceeding to put the best chances on your side of the table. Consider also that Google’s algorithm evolves and the filtering is subject to change. By adopting the following formula you will most likely be successful, very successful.

1. Get a domain name representing your keyword.

For example, keyword.com

Don’t tell me the .com of your keyword has gone; you can always build your keyword into a key-phrase which will work fine. Remember, the closer you are to what people actually type into the search form, the higher your chance of being found.

Example: how-to-change-a-light-bulb.com

Watch out: don’t use Brand Names or Trademarks without authorization in your domain name. Google-Top-10.com would be clearly against Google’s terms as well as it would be sanctioned by law.

2. Load a website based on a Search Engine Optimized Script.

No doubt some sites do better than others and some scripts give you a fair advantage, namely if you are not a SEO expert. Semiomantics scripts, the ones I am using, have been developed to provide to anyone an optimized framework with high publishing power. The power of clean, search engine optimized scripts has been proven time and again and you will find many samples of  Google Top 10 performance by Semiomantics based scripts.

I put the script right on the number two position, because we have demonstrated that you can reach Google Top 10 simply with a domain and a script without any content.

Here is a shocking example: a year ago or longer we have loaded a domain renateschedl.com to demonstrate that we can beat easily renate-schedl.com, renate-schedl.de and so on. Our renateschedl.cm has been for as long as it exists on Google number 1 without any content other than a reference to Semiomantics and a basic configuration targeting the irrelevant keyword Fibromyalgia. Check out Renete Schedl.

My point is of purely educational nature: Renate is a dear friend and great marketer. But in a way she also is victim of ‘keyword-theft’, ‘name-theft’ or whatever you want to call a sly form of legal identity theft:

Large networks, such a linked-in, facebook, twitter and others grab your name to get their websites on top of Google under your neme keyword. Your site, having less authority than the big boys, falls back and often disappears from the top 10, even if you use your name as domain name. The big boys place their ads along with your name, profile or keyword and make the bucks while you, fooled,  have thought that they would help you to promote your business.

Renate Schedl on Google

Renate Schedl on Google

Observe that ranks 2–5 are monopolized by the big boys, leaving Renate just with the breadcrumbs.

Result: the Semiomantics Framework does better even without any content, proving it’s superior quality and long term efficiency. So far for the Script test.

3. Create a Clear, Keyword related site structure

Create a structure where you can easily organize your content in function of the targeted niches and keywords. A site map is agood idea to allow Google’s search spiders to easily find your content and to index it contextually.

4. Create Good Contextual Content

You don’t need to be a genius. But original, interesting content is a plus.

5. Edit your Content

Editing your content in an optimized way needs a little effort and is not as easy as it may seem: experience shows that many a great Author does not appear on Google Top 10 with brilliant content, just because the content is not edited in the best possible way. Editing is a job you can learn. Ycademy Online Seminars and Trainings are available for that.

6. Publish your Content

It’s a bit like the Editing job; brilliant content, lousily published will just not make it. The quality of your publishing can be improved largely with a solid site framework, such as Semiomantics frameworks. Personal fine-tuning however will always make the difference. Publishing is an art but you can learn it. Ycademy seminars and Trainings cover this topic as well.

7. Consistency and Focus

Make it a rule to think in campaigns, whereas the goal is to get your site to Google Top 10 ranking on the selected keyword or keyphrase.

Example: if your site is about “How to publish a Newsletter” then post about this topic as many posts as are needed to reach your Top 10 ranking, in stead of jumping from one topic to the next without ever reaching on any keyword an authority position.

YORGOO Publishing, another Semiomantics based site has reached rank 4 on “How to publish your Newsletter” with just one post, beating 242,000,000 competitors on Google.

How to Publish your Newsletter on Google

How to Publish your Newsletter on Google

Once you have reached your top 10 position, you must maintain it; just continue to publish once in a while, depending on the competition, a post targeting the selected keyword.

A campaign on a keyword is similar to promoting a URL: keep your focus until the goal is reached before you shift to the next keyword. If and when you shift, make sure you have the necessary resources to campaign for the next keyword while maintaining your achievements on the first target.

8. Know your Priorities

Focus on reaching Google Top 10 before you think about web design, graphics, ads and other distractions. If your site can not be found by searchers, no one will ever see your ads or beautiful graphics.

Priority number one is therefore: Reach Google Top 10!

Once you are there, you are interested in offering your visitors a good first impression: create empathy with your site design, look and feel. Aim to offer your visitors quality content and a positive surfing experience.

Only on the third level or priorities I put ads.

There are always exceptions to the rules and there are just two of them to mention: YORGOO Blaster and the new YORGOO Booster; these are two systems which are ads related, more than content related and follow their own path.

Conclusion

Applying the above rules, I have been doing pretty well over the years and I believe all those who have followed Ycademy Seminars and who have implemented the above on their own sites are reaching Google Top 10 positions … almost at will and more importantly: the Google Top 10 rankings have long lasting effects and that is where you make and save money in your marketing effort.

Google Top 10 Ranking

You want to reach Google top 10 ranking with your website? Great. And then, what’s next?

Why do you want to reach Google Top 10?

Ask yourself this simple question and create a relation between your purpose and your website. Different reasons can motivate you to storm Google: you want high visibility for interested people to find your content. You want to increase the readership to influence the way people think about a topic (opinion leader). You want to occupy space on Google Top 10 to earn money.

Fine, but how do you want to make money?

Make Money with Google Top 10

Let’s not go into keyword analysis and market assessment here; let’s just look at the mechanisms which allow you to make money from your Google Top 10 Position.

When people search Google to find a solution to a problem or question, they will end up on the Top 10 search return page. Your entry shares the benefit of that page with 9 other organic entries, maybe an authority entry as well as with some advertisers who pay for being listed on the right side of the page.

The more people search for your terms (keywords) the more the Google Result page obtains and the more you are likely to harvest your share of that traffic.

Some people will click on your Google entry and end up on your site, respectively on the specific page of your site which has made the race.

Your site has different things to offer to your visitor: Contextual Content, other content, Ads and Gadgets.

By Clicking on your ads or by following related commercial links from within your content, visitors will enter your sales pipeline. Depending on what marketing strategy you use, you may make money from every single click (pay per click programs, such as Google AdSense) or you may direct visitors to a sales page of yours (shop for example) or of a merchant you are an affiliate of. The Third possibility is that visitors click on ads you have been paid for to display by direct advertisers.

Google Top 10 Make Money strategy 1

Basically it’s your content which will make you earn a Google Top 10 position.

Content is what Google is looking for; a product review is a good example for strategic content. The content can be directly linked to a sales pipeline from within the post or page, by linking from within your post to your shop or affiliate program where the reviewed product is sold and from where you expect commissions (your shop, Amazon Affiliate Program, and many more).

In this case, the content has 2 functions:

1. It earns your Top 10 position.

2. It links to contextual sales.

This strategy is probably the most rewarding one, since the content (originally that’s what visitors came to your site for) takes the information a step further right to a sales pipeline.

The Problem is: you need to write good content to reach Google Top 10 and you need to create the necessary empathy with your readers to keep them interested enough to follow your recommended links.

This strategy is compatible with all other strategies and can be used on any site format.

Google Top 10 Make Money strategy 2

You are a fairly good producer of content, but your skills are not particularly sharp on writing ‘sales pages’.

Here the content transports your site to Google Top 10 but you will not focus on selling straight off your content (text), you may rather want to0 associate ads to your post, within the loop (post).

A contextual ad associated with a post is great stuff and still better than just being able to use the sidebars, headers and footers of your page. Such ads can have the shape of banners, text ads or flash or whatever you like and they can refer to your own products, other people’s products or advertisers, such as Google Ads.

This strategy is brilliant in as much as it can be associated to any content, even authorized syndicated content and it will work. Imagine you get a great product feed from a merchant to your site and you associate automatically relevant ads?

Google Top 10 Make Money strategy 3

How about headers, footer and sidebars?

These are the most basic places you will find ads on and most webmasters use ads in their framework. Such ads can be contextual, such as Google Ads or they can just be ads promoting products and services of general interest to your readership.

The danger and main mistake you may notice is that people often exaggerate to such an extent that visitors will not look at the parts of your layout where you accumulate ads; in fact many a surfer has developed a reflex to smartly navigate around ads areas on websites.

The quantity of ads is less decisive than the quality, the editing quality! One well placed and edited ad may do much better than 10 ads which scare people away.

The Good News remains: such ads can be completely separated from the content and the extreme strategy would consist in overwriding the visitors original interest in your content with a new interest in what the ad or promo is claiming!

This is an incredibly simple concept allowing people without writing skills to monetize a Top 10 Position.

Does it work? Yes, it does as YORGOO Blasters prove daily.

Google Top 10 Money Making strategy 4

Combine any of the above strategies in function of your purpose, skills and ambitions and select the appropriate framework for doing so. If you are content focused, you want to select a framework with highlights your content, if you are ads focused, your need a framework which will exhibit your ads in an overwhelming way, and so on.

WordPress 2.8 Baker released

WordPress has just released it’s latest version 2.8 where a bunch of new features are available for the comfort of average WP users. The most important change is in the speed and in the fact that themes can be loaded and easily edited from the dashboard.

The name Baker has been added in honor of the trumpeter Chet Baker (not Brenda Baker for once, but I could agree with naming it just for our Brenda).

Plugin issues

Most plug-ins work well with WP 2.8. We have tested over 100 plug-ins on this site so far.

Feedwordpress Problem

The Feedwordpress plug-in presents however a serious problem in the interface under Syndication Settings namely for individual links: the tag selector does not work and therefore tags cannot be added properly.

Consequences for YORGOO Press, YORGOO Blaster, YORGOO Booster, Semiomantics

All recommended plug-ins work with all our scripts except the feedwordpress as mentioned above. If you are not using feedwordpress, you may just upgrade your installation form the dashboard and appreciate the new features.

We will keep you posted about the fixes. As all scripts work perfectly well on WP 2.7.1, there is no immediate reason to upgrade and if you are using any of the problematic plug-ins, such as feedwordpress, just remain put; we are working on a fix and it’s probable that the feedwordpress developer will come up with a new version shortly.

Ycademy Seminar May 2009: Make Money with YORGOO Press

The YORGOO Publishing Concept Applied

YORGOO Press is the ideal framework to create an online Newspaper targeting an audience of your choice. Since we launched YORGOO Press 2 months ago, 28 online Newspapers have been created and the unique Edition of 25 YORGOO Press frameworks are sold out. A good deal for those who were able to grab a copy!

According to the YORGOO Publishing Concept, our publication is a framework where multiple authors contribute to build an interesting publication for a targeted public. YORGOO Press is SEO tuned by Semiomantics and therefore extremely powerful to gain visibility on Search Engines, namely on Google.

The performance of YORGOO Press can be boosted by adding daughter publications using the YORGOO Blaster Framework.

The Authors

You are your first author! Post on your Author’s website and funnel your contributions into your publications using the appropriate feeds for the concerned categories. But, be aware, in most cases you cannot do it all by yourself, since your readers expect continuously new and interesting content. Different options are open: syndicated content from authorities in the field of concern, PLRs as well as articles distributed by directories. The choice of your authors will define the prestige and performance of your publication.

Edit Images 2

Edit Images 2

The Editor and Publisher

As the newspaper owner, you are the Editor and Publisher with all the tasks, responsibilities and benefits inherent to these functions.

You have the sole responsibility for the content on your website! The choice of contributors is therefore of paramount importance. Also you are in charge to edit the content according to the style and targeted keywords of your Publication. And you are the Publisher who creates a sound mix between content and advertising.

The YORGOO Blasters and Boosters

The blasters are niche sites which can be off-springs of your main publication. Their purpose is to deliver Ads to Target namely in the cold SE Market. YORGOO Blaster has been designed to play exactly that role and is doing it successfully.

YORGOO Blaster is ready to launch it’s new version this week. It will be based on WordPress 2.7.1 as the version tested in YORGOO Media.

YORGOO Booster is a new product we will launch shortly: it will not replace YORGOO Blaster but it will be an alternative with some features making it easy to customize, to update and to integrate into a visual concept you may apply to all your sites. The Purpose of YORGOO Booster is similar to the Blaster: Deliver ads to targeted audiences in the cold market. It’s a keyword grabber where content is secondary and ads delivery the declared aggressive goal. This is where ads become content :-).

Edit Images 3

Where and How to Make Money?

The above described 3 levels of publications have each a different purpose and therefore a different advertising concept:

1. The Authors blog is focused on Content, 99% Content and 1% the author’s name. The Author’s name is a Brand to promote and as the case may be to promote your writing skills or your original content for other publishers to evaluate and purchase as the case may be. Personally, I keep my Author’s blog free of any advertising, however I would promote there for example my services as an author or the scripts the site is built on. I also would promote there tools, seminars and features interesting publishers.

2. The YORGOO Press Newspaper is like any Newspaper a mix of well separated advertising blocks and content. Content related advertising using Google Ads is a classic. Affiliate Marketing may pay better and the best is of course if you can promote your own products. YORGOO Press has many built in hooks for ads to be placed on strategic positions in the lay-out. The seminar will deal with these issues. An interesting way to monetize your site is to find direct advertisers, as we can see on Garden Route News or on Business Market Watch London.

3. The YORGOO Blasters are advertising focused niche sites delivering money making content to target. The choice of the ads, their format and visual effect will determine the click-through rate and conversion. Blasters and Boosters are set and forget devices. Pay per Click advertising is ideal as well as Hot Offers people cannot resist the temptation to find out more about.

Edit Image 4

The Ycademy Online Seminar Content

The seminar will focus on YORGOO Press Publications and implement customized advertising models. Affiliate Marketing, Direct Advertising and straight PayPal buttons will be added in a meaningful way to allow visitors to realize their (shopping) dreams quickly, efficiently and rewardingly.

New features will be built into each participating YORGOO Press site to support the commercial ambitions of each publisher. Increased interactivity will be added, as well as the possibility to print out posts.

We also will focus on the editing of ads and commercial content.

For info about the seminar, which will take place this coming week-end on May 30 and 31, 2009, please contact Bianca Gubalke at bianca(at)ycademy.com, I believe however it has been sold out for a while.

A more detailed agenda will follow shortly.

Editing slide shows is one thing, delivering them is another. There are a few factors which will impact on your visitors Surfing Experience.

Using a WordPress based website you have multiple options. You can just use galleries from the built in media module.

Example 1: Images are loaded into the WP Media Folder using the upload tool associated with the post editor.

To display the pictures as a slide show, you need some additional soft ware, plug-ins.

Example 2: Images are loaded into a Image Management Module and rendered as an embedded slide show:

The above depends mainly of the technology used on your website since most computers can render such slide shows and there is therefore no discrimination of users who are not equipped with software beyond default.

With the increasing popularity of Social Media, some interesting applications have been developed which allow Internet users to improve their surfing experience by installing additional soft on their computers. The success of such soft depends on the number of sites which add corresponding features to their development.

Here is an example and I would suggest you download the software on your Computer profit fully from the 3D effects. By the way: FaceBook, Flickr and YORGOO Media are equipped with these add-ons, to mention just a few.

Watch now: when you pass your mouse over a picture, you notice a button:

If you click on it, your local 3D image wall will render the images, try on one of the above pictures.

Download your CoolIris Browser and install it on your computer and then watch and be amazed about the new experience.

We can take this further and show a whole wall of our images on the website:

How about showing my Flickr Pics on a CoolIris wall?

It’s possible, watch out for the next post.
