Meanwhile, we had our monthly online Seminar by Ycademy with a focus on “Social Media Marketing” – no time to look left, right or center… not the way we zoomed through Social Networks the like of Facebook, Twitter, Empire Avenue, Google+, Flickr and more… all being or becoming an important integral part of our online marketing strategy… and giving us down here in the boonies with absolutely lousy Internet connections a hell of a hard time.

However, this morning I went to have a look and – lo and behold – we even improved the ranks by adding position 2 to it… plus another on Google Top 10 – which is amazing and the dream – and essential focus – of any hotel or institution within the highly competitive Tourism and Travel Industry within South Africa. This post is for my friends, shareholders and investments in Empire Avenue. It shows you the rational behind my EA performance.
 

Where

Living in Greece, south of Athens at the beach, the internet is the ideal working place, the more that here in Vouliagmeni, the beaches are equipped with high speed WiFi :-).

What

I have been developing and building websites for the last 10 years. Today the main demand comes from all over the world for custom design and developments with the aim to gain high visibility on Google and in social networks. Over the years I have built a solid team of partners from all around the globe with whom we share project developments. High demand for WordPress based sites have led to the development of an own highly customizable and optimized framework which has proven its performance and efficiency over the last 3 years. The XO Theme for WP can also be bought as a DIY version at http://semiomantics.com. More recent developments point into the direction of the mobile web, whereas we optimize sites for various mobile platforms and build applications for the restless :-). I am writing a Blog at http://yorgonestoridis.com which deals with many issues related to my business and life. More specific blogs deal with Digital Photography, Web Design, Online Editing and Publishing, Online Marketing and Website Development. To pass on the know-how I have been offering daily online calls and monthly 2-days seminars for years, helping people to succeed with their home business or in their endeavor to bring their offline activity to the top of Google.

Why Empire Avenue?

I like EA as it demonstrates the interaction and interactivity between different networks and the impact of socializing online on traffic and conversion; of course the investment game is far from realist, but it stimulates people to hang in there and to continue to promote less their business than EA. EA also allows to study networkers’ behavior compared to investors’ behavior in as much as networkers typically seem to use the formula: “I buy your shares if you buy mine”, which is complete nonsense, whereas an investor would rather buy a stock with potential and do everything to help the baby grow ( for example: I recommend all shares I buy, I Twitter about them and as the case may be I look at the blogs and endorse them, I like them on Facebook and I may look at their Fan Page and so on.) I am too new to the program to measure the impact of Social Network activity on the personal growth, but it will be interesting to draw some conclusions from the stats.

The Goal

There is a lot to learn from EA to finally implement some of the lessons into our own Strategies to promote our own websites and business rather that to build wealth for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and … EA.

For the time being I am happy about any kind of support, be it as a recommendation, a mention, an endorsement or if you like to invest into an aggressive strategy, you are most welcome to grab my shares. Don’t however ask me to reciprocate on investment, as my investment decisions are function of building value for my shareholders; the best I can do for you, is to keep the value of the stock you buy growing faster than your over all performance …  makes sense, does it? For this reason, I also kick out shares which don’t perform, which would be a problem if the deals were based on reciprocity.

How to set up a Money Making Blog

We are looking at 4 essential elements needed to make money with your blog.

1. Traffic

Where there are no visitors, there is no money. Traffic will depend on how well you communicate the existence of your content or how well you promote your blog. Some of the most used ways to bring visitors to our blog are email, search engine optimization, aggregators, social networking, wod to mouth. In short: all means of communication are good to make people aware of our blog or a blog post.

2. Content

While the first task of your content is to be noticed by search engines and spiders in order to be indexed and listed in the most appropriate way, the second task is to provide your reader content of interest and value.

The indexing and listing makes it possible for people to find your posts when they search for information, solutions, benefits or for whatever they may type into a search box.

Once they are on your site, the quality of you content will decide on your success; it can build trust, inspire authority and most importantly, it can trigger people to help you promote your blog by sharing the post or URL with friends.

3. Ads

As a publisher, you want to optimize the mix of content and advertising. Many studies exist about how much space to allocate to ads and where to place commercial content. In fact there are no general rules as the optimization will depend on your topic and targeted readership and what your visitors expect (and are used to).

One rule however seems to make its way: don’t exaggerate! Too high density of ads annoys your visitors, namely if they came to your site for its content. A few well placed ads are more efficient than a page displaying ads and pop-ups all over the screen.

4. Your Publishing Framework

This is the technical aspect of your venture. A website is a publication and you are a publisher. Your Publishing framework can help you to better promote you content and to display content to your audience in a more attractive and eye catching way. The framework is also responsible for the first impression based on your choices for a layout and style  (colors, images, graphics, fonts and so on).

You framework is the technical back bone of your site as well. It can contain all sorts of features which automate processes and make your life easier. Your advertising features and mechanisms can be part of the framework and run on a set and forget base.

How to reach Google Top 10 Positions?

Over the years we have come across many promising formulas to reach Google Top 10 Positions. Hype Promotion guaranteeing Google Top 10 position on any keyword is sent to your spam box daily and promising, well designed sales pages are even promoted by Google Ads which is in complete contradiction to the products’ claimed merits.

The simple Google Top 10 Formula

Seriously, nobody can guarantee Google Top 10 positions on any keyword. However there are some clear ways of proceeding to put the best chances on your side of the table. Consider also that Google’s algorithm evolves and the filtering is subject to change. By adopting the following formula you will most likely be successful, very successful.

1. Get a domain name representing your keyword.

For example, keyword.com

Don’t tell me the .com of your keyword has gone; you can always build your keyword into a key-phrase which will work fine. Remember, the closer you are to what people actually type into the search form, the higher your chance of being found.

Example: how-to-change-a-light-bulb.com

Watch out: don’t use Brand Names or Trademarks without authorization in your domain name. Google-Top-10.com would be clearly against Google’s terms as well as it would be sanctioned by law.

2. Load a website based on a Search Engine Optimized Script.

No doubt some sites do better than others and some scripts give you a fair advantage, namely if you are not a SEO expert. Semiomantics scripts, the ones I am using, have been developed to provide to anyone an optimized framework with high publishing power. The power of clean, search engine optimized scripts has been proven time and again and you will find many samples of  Google Top 10 performance by Semiomantics based scripts.

I put the script right on the number two position, because we have demonstrated that you can reach Google Top 10 simply with a domain and a script without any content.

Here is a shocking example: a year ago or longer we have loaded a domain renateschedl.com to demonstrate that we can beat easily renate-schedl.com, renate-schedl.de and so on. Our renateschedl.cm has been for as long as it exists on Google number 1 without any content other than a reference to Semiomantics and a basic configuration targeting the irrelevant keyword Fibromyalgia. My point is of purely educational nature: Renate is a dear friend and great marketer. But in a way she also is victim of ‘keyword-theft’, ‘name-theft’ or whatever you want to call a sly form of legal identity theft:

Large networks, such a linked-in, facebook, twitter and others grab your name to get their websites on top of Google under your neme keyword. Your site, having less authority than the big boys, falls back and often disappears from the top 10, even if you use your name as domain name. The big boys place their ads along with your name, profile or keyword and make the bucks while you, fooled,  have thought that they would help you to promote your business.

Observe that ranks 2–5 are monopolized by the big boys, leaving Renate just with the breadcrumbs.

Result: the Semiomantics Framework does better even without any content, proving it’s superior quality and long term efficiency. So far for the Script test.

3. Create a Clear, Keyword related site structure

Create a structure where you can easily organize your content in function of the targeted niches and keywords. A site map is agood idea to allow Google’s search spiders to easily find your content and to index it contextually.

4. Create Good Contextual Content

You don’t need to be a genius. But original, interesting content is a plus.

5. Edit your Content

Editing your content in an optimized way needs a little effort and is not as easy as it may seem: experience shows that many a great Author does not appear on Google Top 10 with brilliant content, just because the content is not edited in the best possible way. 6. Publish your Content

It’s a bit like the Editing job; brilliant content, lousily published will just not make it. The quality of your publishing can be improved largely with a solid site framework, such as Semiomantics frameworks. Personal fine-tuning however will always make the difference. 7. Consistency and Focus

Make it a rule to think in campaigns, whereas the goal is to get your site to Google Top 10 ranking on the selected keyword or keyphrase.

Example: if your site is about “How to publish a Newsletter” then post about this topic as many posts as are needed to reach your Top 10 ranking, in stead of jumping from one topic to the next without ever reaching on any keyword an authority position.

Once you have reached your top 10 position, you must maintain it; just continue to publish once in a while, depending on the competition, a post targeting the selected keyword.

A campaign on a keyword is similar to promoting a URL: keep your focus until the goal is reached before you shift to the next keyword. If and when you shift, make sure you have the necessary resources to campaign for the next keyword while maintaining your achievements on the first target.

8. Know your Priorities

Focus on reaching Google Top 10 before you think about web design, graphics, ads and other distractions. If your site can not be found by searchers, no one will ever see your ads or beautiful graphics.

Priority number one is therefore: Reach Google Top 10!

Once you are there, you are interested in offering your visitors a good first impression: create empathy with your site design, look and feel. Aim to offer your visitors quality content and a positive surfing experience.

Only on the third level or priorities I put ads.

There are always exceptions to the rules and there are just two of them to mention: YORGOO Blaster and the new YORGOO Booster; these are two systems which are ads related, more than content related and follow their own path.

Applying the above rules, I have been doing pretty well over the years and I believe all those who have followed Ycademy Seminars and who have implemented the above on their own sites are reaching Google Top 10 positions … almost at will and more importantly: the Google Top 10 rankings have long lasting effects and that is where you make and save money in your marketing effort.
