Publishing and Editing Images

As our previous post showed: images are great to improve the surfing experience of our visitors. The way we edit however is an important component for different reasons: if we embed large pictures into a post or page, the first impression can be smashing but it can be at the expense of fast loading pages. There are a few remedies to the loading problems you may encounter.

How to assure fast page loading

The best solution from a user’s point of view: get a fast internet connection. If I am running the previous post on a 24 MB/s line, it’s a piece of cake. If you live in a country where fast lines are not available, then you are at the mercy of webmasters who load less demanding stuff.

Thumbnail images

Thumbnails load fast and can then expand to most any size. Chose a thumbnail format which is still big enough to attract the curiosity of your visitor.

Example: this is a 120x80 thumbnail. It gives a ‘small’ idea about what the big picture could be.

Bianca Gubalke on the Cover

Bianca Gubalke on the Cover

Embed medium size Images

If a picture is less attractive as a thumbnail, just embed a medium size format:

Example: 300 wide for this one.

Hanno Coetzee Personalized Business

Hanno Coetzee Personalized Business

Embed maximum width Image only exceptionally

One big image in a post will not hurt. But if you embed multiple pictures, loading time will increase dramatically.

Example: 500 wide.

Larrie Perkins Online Filing in Asia

Larrie Perkins Online Filing in Asia

Here we choose the big size because the thumb or 300 would not really have any significant effect.

Use Slide Shows

Slide shows also allow us to save time depending on how they load.

Check it out our next post.

Use overlay display for large pictures.

Check out the extra large versions of the above pictures by clicking on them:

Also, some pictures will only develop the desired effect in big format: click to see Ismail from Global Sports :-).

As you can see: this page loads much faster than the previous post about Besma Bashier HERE.

PS: If you would like to learn how to create such images, please post a comment :-).

PPS: I forgot: You can always use Galleries to organize the pics of a post or page in a more balanced way:

Garden Route Great Brak River

Great Brak River South Africa

Great Brak River Accommodation and Accommodation Great Brak River were two key-phrases Hanno Coetzee suggested this morning for a tagging test and contest. The issue was about: how to tag and publish in the most efficient way a post targeting people who are looking for accommodation in Great Brak River on the Garden Route in South Africa.

I had told Hanno that I have been testing different methods recently and that I had some astonishing results with a ‘new’ or a different way of tagging bringing the Semiomantics tuning advantages yet to another level.

To increase the challenge, I wanted to use a brand new blog, in fact I started posting from the blog we set up last night at during the Ycademy call. The site is at Africa YORGOO Media and if you check it out: the configuration of the site is not yet completed, however the basic Semiomantics set up on YORGOO Media gave me the necessary confidence to take the bet.

The post content suggested by Hanno was a recent post on Garden Route Directory by Hanno Coetzee which we just copied and pasted into the new site.

Here are some of the Results:

Accommodation Great Brak River

All Accommodation keywords in South Africa and on the Garden Route in particular are difficult to conquer as there is fierce competition and active publishing by sites which have been there for ages.

Our result is astonishing anyway:

Accommodation Great Brak River on Google

Accommodation Great Brak River on Google

Our best result is with Africa YORGOO Media on rank 7, beating YORGOO Publishing which ranks 9th.

Great Brak River Accommodation

This is probably closer to what a visitor would type into Google and again, we are visible on top 10 on Great Brak River Accommodation.

Great Brak River Accommodation on Google

Great Brak River Accommodation on Google

Similar result as before, we come in under Great Brak River Accommodation with Africa YORGOO Media on number 9, ahead of YORGOO Publishing.

Great Brak River

Great Brak River is the name of a town on the Garden Route in South Africa. We test this tag as well and again we make it immediately to rank 9 with the new site at Africa YORGOO Media.

Great Brak River on Google

Great Brak River on Google

Garden Route Great Brak River

Searchers may want to zoom in using Geographic criteria and look for Garden Route Great Brak River. So did we and again we find our post on spot 8, this time with YorgoNestoridis.com:

Garden Route Great Brak River on Google

Garden Route Great Brak River on Google

Let’s look further along these lines.

South Africa Great Brak River

Our best shot is Africa YORGOO Media again on rank 26 for South Africa Great Brak River:

South Africa Great Brak River on Google

South Africa Great Brak River on Google

It’s rank 16 by now, not 26 … we are moving up fast.

Great Brak River Bed and Breakfast

Other people may look for a special type of accommodation in Great Brak River such as bed and Breakfast. Here as well we score well with our post:

Great Brak River bed and Breakfast on Google

Great Brak River bed and Breakfast on Google

Africa YORGOO media comes in on number 5, our best performance.

Some people may just want to know more about the place where they have booked to stay and therefore they may type into the Google search:

Great Brak River Resting Palms

The Google search on Great Brak River Resting Palms returns an absolutely smashing result:

Great Brak River Resting Palms on Google

Great Brak River Resting Palms on Google

Again, Africa YORGOO Media comes in on top, this time on number 1. The other market sites are sites syndicating YORGOO Publishing or sites which have been there before, such as Hanno’s Gardenrouteaccom.co.za, a smashing site in general (but we beat it) as well as gardenroutedirectory.com, which we beat as well.

Interesting: there are two sites from YORGOO Media on these top 8, demonstrating the power of our new Publishing framework at YORGOO Media.

Resting Palms

Finally, let’s just do a search on the name of the accommodation: Resting Palms. Google returns over 1,800,000 results and here is where we come in:

Resting Palms on Google

Resting Palms on Google

Our best shot again is Africa YORGOO Media! Rank 6 –9 or 4 out of 10 is a nice result.

Publishing Online: Benefits and Value

Imagine you are the owner of Resting Palms in Great Brak River and you would like to become visible on Google so that tourists and travellers can find the place when searching Google. You have two possibilities: either you pay for advertising on Google or top ranked sites, or you get your own site set up to grab the keywords of your interest. Google ads are probably way too expensive over the long run if you want to reach a statistically significant result.

Advertising on well places sites such as the Gardenroute directory is a convenientsolution for multiple reasons: low cost (compare with Yahoo directory where a minimum entry is $200 per month and you don’t see these guys hardly on Google, but still cheaper than Google ads.), great presentation and editorials and a fast spreading presence on thousands of South Africa related keywords: probably the best deal on line right now namely for people taking long term contracts as the site is young and fast growing. Contact: Lalakoi or The Garden Route Newsletter.

Get your own web site. For a one man show business (like many bed and breakfast facilities are), a solid publishing solution such as YORGOO Press or YORGOO Media could be ideal provided the owner publishes regularly content about events, stories and so on about the business, town, area and so forth. Cost wise it’s the best solution for people who have a long term ambition for their business and who want to spend the time to take care of an own site (needs may be some learning).

For questions about pricing of our services, please contact Bianca Gubalke in South Africa at bianca(at)ycademy.com. By the way: Africa YORGOO Media is for sale :-).

Social Media Marketing Ycademy Seminar

Social Media Marketing Automated

Social Media require a good input of time. Be it Blogs, Social Networks or any other Web 2.0 platform where personal involvement is required, the time factor plays an important role as in any human relation based context.

Marketing involving social media requires therefore a good dose of planning and a solid concept.

[kaltura-widget wid=“b3aajyftkg” width=“410” height=“364” addpermission=“0” editpermission=“0” /]

Targeting

Social Media allow targeting based on internal search tools. Searching means: you have to know to know your targeted keywords, login, search and then invite people to join your list. It’s an active push approach.

This approach takes too much time, namely when you are involved in multiple networks.

The second approach would be: be open to anyone who wants to join your list and make yourself available under the search terms corresponding to your goals.

This is a passive, pull approach.

Screening

When targeting actively, we do the screening when typing our keywords and phrases into the search tool; when targeting passively we are available for all those who are searching for the keywords linked to our profile. In this latter case the screening is done without our personal active  involvement and we don’t need to have a case by case approach.

Automated screening, where our profile attracts interested people via the internal search engine is my preferred method as it does not require any additional tasks to be added to my daily work load once I have set up my account on a social networks.

Pipeline

Once we are available via the search engine, we then have to offer to interested people what they are looking for. To make the pipeline efficient, we need to make sure that we offer the shortest possible link to what people are searching for, and that’s a link to our web site, blog, online publication outside of the social network.

Follow-up

Our website allows readers to comment and subsequently we can follow up on those comments as the case may be. Or we offer an opt-in to our newsletter which allows yet another way to follow up or we just offer a contact form and or a call me button and the communication hooks are thus in place.

YORGOO Press Unique Automated Social Network Marketing Engine

YORGOO Press has added and implemented this week-end its new Social Media Marketing Module. The occasion was the Ycademy Online Seminar which allowed to test the resulting automated communication streams. The results are smashing.

How it works:

You post an article to your YORGOO Press. the post triggers a Twitter entry to your wall and all the friends walls you post to. It then triggers an entry into facebook, becoming available to facebook prospects and friends as well. The concerned entry is a 140 letter Twitter format entry with a link back to your original article on your YORGOO Press.

In social networks, people can find the entry and click on the link and visit your site straight away.

Or, they can comment on facebook or Twitter, which will trigger an feed back to your YORGOO Press or any other site of yours, which created there a new blog entry you can now comment or react to…which in its turn triggers again a Twitter entry and a facebook entry … and you have just created the perpetuum mobile. In my case I use for SN returns my U Q Me Site.

New YORGOO Press Features

YORGOO Press is an attractive website with exciting features providing visitors with an interesting surfing experience. We have added a media viewer which allows to view images, videos and listen to music on a fast opening overlay based media viewer without reloading the page which allows to view images in original size without the usual limits imposed by web site layouts. Spectacular views Guaranteed. Click on the thumbnails below at the bottom of the post for a demo.

YORGOO Press links directly to Social Networks such as facebook and Twitter and generates automatically the above described streamlined Communication Flow.

YORGOO Press provides users automatically with quality content articles from authority authors which are automatically imported and can then be edited for publishing purposes to match the publishers requirements, targets and objectives. The module drags content from a large article data base 9hundreds of thousands of articles to choose from) into YORGOO Press. the selection is made via a category selector. The import is based on a timer and allows up to 10 articles to be imported per day.

Automated Google Map integration with just one mouse-click is now possible in blog posts and static pages.

YORGOO Press has advanced to the finest publishing framework online, making ultimate technology accessible to ordinary people achieving extraordinary things.

Impact on search engines

Test articles posted during the seminar had immediate impact as well as on social networks as on search engines. Interesting progress we noticed namely on the sites from Larrie Perkin, Joe Cettina,  Alejandra Neri and Zo Nicholas.

We also noticed, that our South African friends were somewhat neglected by Google and the indexing of new content took longer than for Europeans or Americans. This concerns namely Bianca Gubalke, Hanno Coetzee and Eileen Cupido. In fact connection problems in South Africa prevented Eileen for hours to log on to the seminar.

Ute Schaedler as as usual: Speedy Ute!

Boruch Rappaport from Israel had a surprisingly good line yesterday and Felisa Ryan just consolidated her Google number 1 position.

New YORGOO Press Pricing

YORGOO Press basic version remains at $ 67. The upgrade installation of the new module is charged $50. A new complete YORGOO Press install costs $127. Please contact Bianca for more details at bianca(at)ycademy.com.

The Garden Route a new Online Publication

The Garden Route is the new online publication by Garden Route Publishing. The Purpose is to provide free online information about topics around the Garden Route as well as to be a useful tool for South Africans who would like to profit from the positive aspects of the Internet in our local and global society.

The Garden Route has been initiated by Yorgo Nestoridis from YORGOO Publishing, joined by Bianca Gubalke who have been inspired by the Garden Route Directory Project elaborated for Hanno Coetzee. Working on that latter project it appeared that there is an increasing demand for online services according to international standards and prices in South Africa.

“The Garden Route” is focused on bridging between low-tech live and the virtual world by making the best technology and the most personalized services accessible to anyone.

The Garden Route Web Site

The Garden Route web site is powered by YORGOO Press, a Semiomantics script prepared and tuned by Yorgo Nestoridis. The formula used serves as a test for a typical local publication as it can be set up. The site will promote specifically efforts from the area of the Garden Route to develop business and services online, and extend it’s services then to South Africa.

The Garden Route is a Non Profit and Non-Commercial site

The Garden Route is a non profit and non-commercial website, it’s a service for all those who want to join and use it. The Garden Route makes services available to a wide public and is open to contributions from the public to design a dynamic picture of every day life along the Garden Route, from artistic creativity to business and from agricultural to touristic developments, from personal online activity to online business building. The Garden Route is a Mirror and aims to bring additional opportunity to express views and opinions to a large readership way beyond the Garden Route.

thegardenroute901

Start-up Promo

To start its activity, The Garden Route, in a joined effort with Hosting South Africa, will sponsor 1001 fully equipped unlimited cPanel Hosting accounts to South Africans who are interested to get their web site online without material barrier. Hosting south Africa hosts co.za domains as a well as all current international domains.

The short term Goal

The Garden Route will be ready for its first full size edition by end of May. By that time TGR expects to be already well placed on Google Search Engines in as much as its targeted keywords are concerned to provide contributors with the best possible visibility and exposure. The Garden Route will then continue to support local efforts and content as well as the local internet penetration.

YORGOO Press Going Strong

YN — YORGOO Press web sites start to storm Google on their respective keyword targets and we are prowd to see that the beauty of the sites does by no means hurt the Semiomantics Tuning and efficiency of the sites. Here below you find some examples.

The YORGOO Times

The YORGOO Times is a customized version of YORGOO Press where we test additional customization features, such as modified layouts, styles as well as the introduction of additional media. It’s all about online publishingand focused on the YORGOO and YORGOO Press Communities. The style projects a traditional black and white news-paper look I personally like for its immediate resemblance with a ‘real’ newspaper.

The site is already rich in content and Garden Route Newsletter has already attracted numerous advertisers. The site under the brand ‘Tha Lalakoi Post’ is part of the Garden Route Group of sites and I am glad that there is already a great base for future business with South Africa we have in the pipeline.

Cars News

Cars daily Chronicle

Cars News by Gene Line is already a very active site with literally attractive content. The Brand Cars Daily Chronicle has been picked up by Google rapidly however the credit is not yet linked to Gene’s YORGOO Press site. As we are in the millions of search returns and stiff competition, it will just take a bit longer, but we will get there!

These are nice starts into Publishing Online and I am proud of the performance of the YORGOO Press powered sites.

The importance of content, original content, shows as soon as we go for traffic rich keywords; it’s therefore important to continue to focus on quality content and on adding regularly fresh and unique content.

Garden Route Directory on Super Hosting

Garden Route Directory from Lalakoi Publishing has migrated to the new hosting facility set up by Hosting South Africa and ChiHosters for professional Semiomantics customers.

Within a relatively short time Garden Route Directory has outgrown its initial shared hosting account, then a VMS to finally end up on the most advanced dedicated hosting solutions we have built for high performance and high traffic websites.

The Hosting provided runs on super fast processors with 4 times more memory than normal shared hosts. Performance enhancements such as Semiomantics SEO deploy better than ever:

Garden Route Directory scores between 92 and 97 on YSlow!

Darden Route Directory

Garden Route Directory in good Company

Garden Route Directory is one of the first sites we host on the new super host; others include BlogMasterClass, a test ground for high performance script testing which scores 97 and above on YSlow even on the home page where 10 posts are actually on display with loads of media. The same hosting solution is powering now PhotoMediaStock which needs loads of resources, as well as the personal site of Hanno Coetzee and of yours truly.

Actually under migration is Global Sports where the store needs the longer the more punch and a mega affiliate mall for Gene Line is under construction.

As usual, we deliver hosting for Semiomantics Customers at cost and kick in Customer Service and Host Management for Semiomantics Commercial Customers.

We are proud of the success of our friends and customers!

Criteria for a Successful Website

by Bianca Gubalke

Criteria for a Successful Website

While in my previous posts I went through the best website criteria for a successful website or blog, be it for setting up one’s own online presence or seen from a customer’s perspective, we deepened the understanding in last night’s Info-Call in the sexy new Microsoft Conference Room we are currently testing! WOW! Life and Learning online will never be the same again. . . especially since I no longer stared into and communicated with a “black hole” after doing yet another update of my Adobe Flash Player… all those who were present know what I am talking about and in case you get the ‘black hole syndrome’ you now know what to do :)

Bianca Gubalke Images

Criteria for a Successful Website

The ‘Criteria for a Successful Website’ and their practical application and implementation were the basic driving force behind what was taught over the past 2 – 3 years in the monthly Ycademy Business Building Seminars – strictly online.

Not surprisingly, many loyal and ambitious seminar attendees have meanwhile applied what they learned and start harvesting the sweet financial fruits from their efforts, courage, consistency and investment in terms of time and money.

Customer Statisfaction

Money is one thing, however, what counts even more is the personal reward and recognition we obtain from sincere, enthusiastic customer satisfaction, meaning people who entrusted us with creating and setting up a website or blog for them, respectively for their company – and who suddenly see their webpages emerge from the amorphous mass of nobodies. . . climbing steadily to Google Top 10 and positioning themselves to stay.

“Customer Satisfaction means all to me” said Hanno Coetzee from the famous Gardenroute along South Africa’s beautiful Southern coastline, at last night’s call.

Hanno Coetzee interviewed by Bianca Gubalke

Hanno Coetzee – aka Lalakoi and from good old Namibia as I am – knows his customers and the business they are in since many years – and they trust him. Armed with the knowledge and skill he has attained with Ycademy plus of course the high performing Semiomantics NewsCast Scripts he readily goes the extra mile. . . preferably on a fishing boat or flirting with Miss Gardenroute 2009 in the Mosselbay Casino. . . to find a smart and cost-efficient solution for each client – hand-tailored to his or her requirements.

Success leaves clues and Hanno is happy and proud to provide his customers with the very best: meaning visibility on Google Top 10 where potential clients hang out and look for solutions for their urgent needs.

If the website creates empathy and the product is what they want – why should they look further? With a few products sold the initial investment is covered and from there it’s all profits!

Fortunately for his customers, Hanno also provides an ongoing and essential Maintenance Service at very fair prices to ensure the race horse keeps performing at top speed and his clients have their backs free to focus on what their business is: selling products and services without being bothered by sometimes highly frustrating upgrades, server hickups and other hassles that noone right in his mind would like to even start getting involved with.

Good luck to Hanno and his family Team. . . we wish you many happy customers!
