Ycademy Flash Basics Seminar

Ycademy Flash Basics Seminar

We have just finished day 1 of the Ycademy Flash Basics Seminar. It has been a full day of hands-on workshop, following step by step the training. Learning anything new takes time, effort and patience, but the reward is definitely worth it.

Flash Sequence of Images

In today’s workshop we focused on working with layers and a short flash sequence of images to create a  flash video. As a beginner its all about understanding the basics, learning the steps to be taken to create an animation and familiarizing oneself with this amazing tool. Each time you use it it gets easier.

Here is an example of one of  today’s training sessions, a simple use of an imported image, working with layers, timeline and understanding some basic principles to create a simple animation. Lots of patience and lots of fun!

Increase Your Business Exposure

By Zo Nicholas

Increase Your Business Exposure

As any business owner knows, business is about making those sales, whatever your product. Even if you are a handyman, tiler or carpenter, you need customers in order to sell your skill and be paid. You need business exposure to bring you those customers.

Simple methods are great and work well, the tried and tested methods like logos, business cards, stickers, flyers, brochures but in todays ‘googling’ society you need a good presence online to, it gives you credibility too.

If I need a tiler, handyman or carpenter in Essex where I live, where do I go to find one?

Handyman

I know that I am not the only one these days to go and ‘google’ my request to find exactly what I need, unless of course someone has recommended such a service before and I have kept a record, otherwise it’s straight to Google. Googling is much more common these days and very much a habit for many people, like myself. Forget the big cumbersome yellow tome ‘the yellow pages’ give me Google any day. Type in your request and up comes a selection of businesses or suggestions to choose from. If you are a business owner, this is the place to be ….and be seen!

Business Presentation

A good presence online starts with your business name and brand and a website design. Your website is your business presentation, active and working for you 24 hours a day, 7 days  week and all  year around. A permanent ad that displays your business. A one time fee that works for you for a full year.

I know from past experience that I have grabbed a business card and stuffed it in my pocket, and when the time was right I checked out the www on the card to view the business presentation in more detail. In our busy lives these  days quiet times when things get done are often long past normal business hours, but your business presentation continues to work for you even when you are asleep.

Website Design

Website design is not as expensive as some may think. A good basic website design displaying a business presentation is an investment and costs much less than placing an ad in a newspaper all year round. Discussing your needs with a web site designer is much more cost effective in the long run than making a decision yourself. An IT Consultant can direct you to the best possible solution for your business needs  and provide you with an affordable website design.

Flash Basics

By Zo Nicholas

Flash Basics

In preparation for the Ycademy Flash Seminar this weeks Yorgoo Daily Training calls have focused on some flash basics.

Flash is the way media and interactive content is delivered to the customer or end user.We use it every day on our computers often without knowing. There is an estimated 864 million PCs worldwide running a Flash Player, that approximately represents 99 percent of internet enabled personal computers. Staggering numbers if you think about it.

First Flash Document

The first flash, hands on, workshop was the creation of a flash document, understanding how to create a symbol, motion tween and the timeline. Here is my first result.

Adding Frames in Photoshop

By Zo Nicholas

The other day someone asked me how to add a frame to an image to give it the finishing touch.

Adding Frames

There are various ways to add a frame to any image. First you need to decide on the function of the graphic that is to be displayed. If the image is to be used for example in a blog then perhaps you just need to add a contrasting background to enhance the image and make it stand out. Making the background colour complimentary to the image used will create a more harmonious effect. Adding a background will also increase the file size of the image  to be used.

Another way is to just add a drop shadow to the graphic to give it that 3D effect.

Adding Frames in Photoshop

In Photoshop when you want to add a frame to any image life is made easy with Action Scripts and brushes. You can find many of these Action Scripts on the web each ceating a different effect, it all depends on what you would really like to achieve.

Lily Framed

Lily frame

In this example I have used a photo of a Lily which I used in an earlier post, and in Photoshop added a filter and then to this I added a Custom Shape Action – Art Deco frame to create a greeting card effect.

By experimenting with various images, backgrounds and frames you soon find out which are your favourite actions. On the other hand you may like to try your hand at creating your own Action Script in Photoshop.

Right Place, Right Time

By Zo Nicholas

Right Place, Right Time

You can spend hours waiting  for a great shot, but sometimes taking a good shot with your digital camera means being in the right place at the right time.

The Pheasant

The Pheasant

We were clearing the garden after the winter and had dug up a bit of ground to do some replanting as we lost quite a few plants this winter. Having gone indoors to take a break we were discussing our plans over a nice hot cup of tea and looked up at what we had accomplished, and there….. saw a stirrring in the bushes. Lo and behold!  a female pheasant strutting around in the freshly dug soil. Grabbing the Nikon we caught a nice shot of the pheasant just getting comfortable in the long grass. Maybe not a shot that will win a competition, but quite a unique photo.

Phasianus Colchicus

The Pheasant – Phasianus colchicus – is not a native bird to the U.K. it was first introduced by the Normans in the 11th century as a game bird. Its usually seen in the open countryside near woodland edges, copses and hedgerows. Females are mottled with paler brown and black, wheras the male have iridescent copper-coloured plumage. Pheasants have a varied diet which they forage for on the ground and occasionally in trees,  their diet is seeds, berries, insects, worms, grass and fruit.

It’s really all just a matter of having your camera ready,  within easy easy reach and charged up ready for the next shot.

Good Luck!

A Little Bit of Blur

By Zo Nicholas

A Little Bit of Blur

Following up on 5 Tips to take Pictures of Cars by Yorgo and the Ycademy Workshop I have applied the Photoshop Blur Action to a photo, a simple play on reflections. Blue on blue, and a car!  Add a little bit of blur, a little bit of  zoom and you have something different from the  norm.

Photoshop Blur Action

Blur

The Photoshop Blur Action can be applied to any photo or image in few simple steps, very easy to use and takes the sweat out of the ‘don’t know how’. By making a few subtle modifications in the Action as and when prompted each image becomes unique, and created according to your own personal tastes.  By post editing your photo in this way you can create your own focus on even the smallest of  details.

Ycademy Trainings

Ycademy Trainings and workshops are a great way to meet others interested in the same subject and to learn, step by step and with guidance, new topics of interest. Why not join a daily call at 8p.m. London time in yorgotalk.com, all are welcome.
