Redefining a Blog using Semantic Markup

Redefining a Blog using Semantic Markup

“You never start with a blanc page, do you?” I was asked at this morning’s breakfast table. Well… my answer was: “Yes, we do!” and promptly that’s what I started out to do today, continuing from yesterday’s post HERE and following the next basic exercise in “How to learn HTML5 and CS3″: Redefining a Blog using Semantic Markup.

Redefining a Blog using Semantic Markup

“Redefining a Blog using Semantic Markup” is first of all about getting rid of the ‘divitis’ syndrome – meaning the usage of div tags – while exploring the elements that create a simple blog structure containing a typical header with a horizontal menu (navigation) underneath it. This is followed by the main section that contains the content in form of articles, that may each have their own header and footer as well as an aside (which may be a pullquote as in my example here). To this we add a sidebar with additional navigation. The page typically ends with a footer for the copyright note and possibly further information like Home, About and Privacy.

Starting out from a blanc white page on my PSpad, I simply followed instructions and tried to understand what I was doing, what was known and where the differences were – creating an index.html page and a style.css – and getting the desired result. Nothing special, nothing designed to look great yet – just an exercise where “Learn by Doing” is what counts.

Another interesting difference I observed: this is all that’s needed at the top of the html page: <!DOCTYPE html> … talking of lean management!

The Gift of Listening

by Bianca Gubalke

The Gift of Listening

During this precious yet in many ways loud and commercialized time between Christmas and New Year, find some moments where you give yourself space – ideally in Nature – and… listen.

Noordhoek Sunset Xmas 2009 by Bianca Gubalke

Become totally still.

Quietly observe the energy and beauty that surround you; open yourself as they slowly embrace and flow into you… dissolving time and space… gently pulling you into a stream of consciousness where you are totally at peace and filled with the joy of just Being. Being connected. Connected with Oneness, Energy, Being.

Once you received this ‘Gift of Listening’… pass it on as the most profound gift you can ever give. Behold its essence as you move into the new year and life’s madness claims you back again…

The Gift of Listening

What do I mean with passing on the “Gift of Listening”?

There is so much talking, chatting, interaction of human minds… and so little real understanding which comes from really listening… meaning giving the other person room and space for expression, for being… and then taking it in with your entire being… feeling… before you think, before you respond, before preparing your own answer, clinging to your own mind, your own ego, your you.

Real listening is being in touch with one another on a much deeper level, a level beyond thought, where we are all One. That’s true Communication where magic can happen.

I am thinking of you, dearest Besma, and your family… as after all this time you have finally settled in your new ‘home’, you are coming to ‘peace’.

I am passing on your good wishes to everyone who reads this and our blessings are with you… and our hope to see your lovely smile and hear your gentle voice live soon again!

Wishing YOU Happy Holidays and a Graceful Moment of Stillness!

Exercise and Antiaging (Antiageing)

Exercise and Antiaging (Antiageing)

The Importance of Boosting your Immune System

Following our article on “Longevity with a Strong Immune System” and how to boost your Immune System with Nutritional Supplements, here are some additional thoughts on “Exercise and Antiageing” that you will find most beneficial if you have reached and surpassed the 50 years light barrier!

Time to do get active… starting with yourself!

Remember those incredible ladies in China, aged between 50 and 62 years, and all starting off learning to Dance Ballet at 50… starting off without any prior Knowledge!

What an inspiration, wouldn’t you agree?!

While ballet may not exactly be what you would like to do, it brings us to a most important chapter when it comes to staying young and flexible in body and mind – as both go together… and this is Exercise!

A Healthy Exercise Routine

A healthy exercise routine is so important!

Whether you follow an individual exercise program, like to jog, take the dog for a walk on the beach, hike in the mountains, join an aerobics class, workout at the gym, swim, sail or go wild in your garden doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you get active and that you truly enjoy what you do, you don’t overdo it and that you are aware of the Exercise Benefits as concerns your overall Health and Fitness.

In fact, once you are used to regular exercise workouts you get sort of addicted to them in a positive way, meaning your body tells you clearly what it needs and you will follow its demand as it just makes you feel so good afterwards!

Aerobics Exercises

Aerobics Exercises Enhance Your Immune System

Exercise Benefits

It’s a known fact that good regular exercise protects your Immune System, however, there are more Exercise Benefits for everybody and especially for babyboomers like you and me who want to keep feeling young, energetic and fit:

• More Physical Energy and Stamina;
• More fresh Air into the lungs and cells through better Breathing;
• Targeted Weight Loss and/or Weight Management;
• Stronger Bones and Muscles (especially important for us girls);
• Better Blood Circulation;
• A sexier, toned Body.
• More physical strength, better balance and posture.
• More mental Energy and Focus;
• Better Sleep patterns;
• Stress Reduction;
• Helps through difficult times and with Depression;
• Fun and Socializing:
• Fun with healthy competitions especially when meeting your goals;
• Reduces high blood pressure;
• Reduces the threat of coronary disease and a stroke…

and last but not least it gives you that absolutely great feeling after the physical exercise that makes you wanting to get more, stretch beyond limits, achieve more – without pressure and pain. It’s just natural, almost automatic.

I am not talking about Competitive Sports here, just normal healthy exercise workouts depending on your preferences, physical condition and other priorities.

Exercise and Antiaging (Antiageing)

Being active and having fun boosts your Immune System and definitely helps with today’s big buzz in terms of “Antiaging” (Antiageing).

More on this topic soon.
